Fis World Junior Championships

Swiss conquers the podium of the ladies' DH
The last gold medal goes to Juliana Suter

Switzerland has won the last of the eleven titles awarded at the Fis Alpin Junior World Ski Championships in Val di Fassa, the ladies’ downhill, which was conquered by the young Juliana Suter, followed by the teammate Noemie Kolly and the Austrian Lisa Grill.
Juliana Suter confirmed her feeling with La VolatA at Passo San Pellegrino, where in 2017 she won two European Cup competitions and, last January, ranked second and third in the double downhill always in the continental circuit. The promising Swiss skier presented herself at the gate as one of the main candidates for the title and fulfilled the expectations: starting with bib number 7, she set the best time (1'23"91), 15 cents ahead of teammate Noemie Kolly, with the eighteen-year-old Austrian Lisa Grill bronze medalist at 66 cents.
Fourth place for another Swiss, Stephanie Jenal, followed by the pair composed by the Austrian Julia Scheib and the Italian Sofia Pizzato. Thanks to the double win in the closing race of the Junior World Ski Championships, Switzerland has won the Marc Hodler Trophy, the special ranking by nations, and has excelled in the medals with 3 gold, 2 silver and a bronze, for a total of 7 medals, ahead of the United States and Norway.
«I love this slope: I'd already won it twice in the European Cup and I knew that if I would have skied well I could get a great result - commented Juliana Suter - Winning a junior world title is great: the race was excellent, the track was demanding and the fact that the whole Swiss team did so well makes the day really memorable. Now all that's left is to grow and collect something important even in the World Cup».
At the end of the last award ceremony, there was a sight towards future, with the Italian Sofia Pizzato handing over the FIS flag to the Norwegian skier Hannah Saethereng. In 2020, in fact, the Junior World Ski Championships will be held in Norway, in the town of Narvik.
A successful edition for the Junior World Championships ended magnificently thanks to the organizing committee chaired by Davide Moser, the staff and the many volunteers who, with professionalism, have contributed to the success of the event.
«A perfect organization, with wonderful tracks, well prepared, and ideal weather conditions: it was a memorable edition of the Fis Alpin Junior World Ski Championships» commented the former Canadian downhill skier Ken Read, who now holds the role of head of youth activity within the FIS.
